ABOUT KIERSTEN

I grew up the only girl in a family of women who sewed. My mother, grandmother and aunts did it all from needlepoint to clothing. At family functions, while the boys were playing in the woods, these women poured their knowledge and experience into me. I loved every minute! After researching our genealogy, we found that, for generations, our family were the tailors for their village in Ireland!

The sewing genes ran deep. Like my family, I loved to knit, crochet, make clothes, do needlepoint, all things sewing interested me. My mother became a master at quilt making. This inspired me to fill my home with handmade quilts as well. But it left me yearning for more. I needed to do something a bit more “out of the box” and less utilitarian.

Fascinated by texture, I began to experiment combining traditional quilting techniques with luxurious silks and satins to create contemporary art. This has given way to endless creativity. I am excited to continue to keep experimenting and creating and see where it will lead.
